The Tragicomic City

Inspired by Sebastiano Serlio’s 1545 city-scenes for theatre – The Tragic Scene and The Comic Scene – this work is the initial visualisations of research exploring the representation of the contemporary English city. Through studies of related urban, cultural, aesthetic, and political issues, the project speculates on topical instances where Serlio’s urban models merge into one, transfiguring both the comedic and tragic, and resulting in an all-out drama of fiction, mythology, iconography, and design.
